Windsurfing boards
Unlike kiteboards, windsurfing boards are not used with
a kite, but rather a sail. The sail attaches to the board via a pivot
point that allows the rider to turn the sail in any direction. The board
usually has an anchor point for one, or sometimes both of the rider’s
feet.
Windsurfing boards come in a variety of styles. Beginner’s boards
are generally larger than the other styles in order to provide a higher
degree of stability. Wave and freestyle boards are generally ridden
by riders with much more experience, as they are designed for speed
and agility.
Windsurfing boards require a sail if they are to be used properly.
The sails are generally made from a plastic material like Mylar, and
are sometimes reinforced with Kevlar mesh. Sails typically come in two
main varieties, camber induced (which is used for speed) and rotational
(for more recreational riders).
