Snow kite

A snow kite is basically the same as those used for kiteboarding, except that these are used to propel skiers and snowboards up and down a mountain, rather than across the water. In most cases, they are of a foil design; however, inflatable kites are sometimes used as well. As with kiteboarding, snowkiting requires practice and patience in order to become proficient.

A snow kite can be used for several different types of riding. Many riders use them to perform feats of acrobatics, because the kite can allow large amounts of “air time” when jumping. Other riders have used them to travel long distances across frozen lakes and wilderness.

Using a snow kite has become more and more popular with skiers and snowboarders looking for a little added adventure. The sport has expanded rapidly over the last decade or so, and has achieved a world-wide audience. Competitions are held in countries all over the globe.
