Kitesurf
In order to kitesurf, there are some basic pieces of equipment
that will need to be purchased. The most obvious, the kite, comes in
several different configurations, depending on your abilities and style
of riding. The primary differences have to do with the kite’s
AR, or aspect ratio, which determines how much wind the kite will “scoop
up”, thereby impacting speed.
A board will also be important if you plan to kitesurf. Because kitesurfing
is done on water, the board is usually made from foam and/or some kind
of composite material, which is designed to make the board float. There
are several styles of boards currently available, including surf-style,
wakeboard style and hybrids.
There are also other pieces of equipment that will be required if you
intend to kitesurf. A harness is needed to connect the rider to the
kite, and many of these are combined into a personal floatation device,
thereby killing two birds with one stone, so to speak. Most people also
recommend a wetsuit and a helmet for added protection.
