Kite string

Kite string can vary somewhat, depending on the size and type of kite being used. For kiteboarding, simple string will not do the job. In most instances, kiteboarders use a line that is made from Dyneema, a polyethylene fiber that is extremely strong.

For a sport kite, polyester kite string is usually recommended. Braided polyester string is extremely strong, and will not stretch nearly as much as nylon varieties. This type of string is also much more durable and is better suited to stunt flying.

Finally, for flying the average kite, simple twine is normally sufficient. As most of these kites will not put that much stress on the line, string rated at 30 lbs or lower is enough to do the job. Most hobby shops will sell this type of string fairly inexpensively.
