Kiteboard
A kiteboard is very similar to a snowboard in appearance,
but are made of lightweight, buoyant materials like foam instead of
fiberglass. However, just like a snowboard, they use a binding system
designed to hold the rider firmly to the board. While standing on the
board, the rider uses a large kite to pull him/her across the water.
A kiteboard is constructed by laminating together several layers of
material. Closed-cell foam is the most common material used due to its
buoyancy and durability. Furthermore, closed-cell foam does not absorb
water, meaning it will never bog down.
A properly constructed kiteboard will be extremely lightweight. As
a rule general rule of thumb, most boards are well under 6.5 lbs. That
weight limit includes the bindings and footpads.
