Dragon kite
A dragon kite is essentially a kite that is designed to
resemble a dragon. They are often highly decorated and considered to
be flying works of art by many enthusiasts. A high degree of craftsmanship
and creativity often go into the construction of these kites.
The history of the dragon kite, and indeed kites in general, begins
in China around the second century BC. It is generally accepted that
they were originally used for military purposes, but the details of
their origins are a bit fuzzy. Centuries later, many Chinese aristocrats
would develop a fascination with kite flying as well.
There are many superstitions attached to the dragon kite. Flying a
kite is believed to bring good fortune to the pilot. They have also
been traditionally used to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
